Wearing dentures and whitening creams are the most popular treatments for reducing tooth decay.
But a new study published in the journal PLOS ONE suggests that the treatment may also be harmful to your teeth.
Researchers at the University of California, Davis, compared the effects of using a standard whitening product and the artificial teeth whitener Ultralight and found that both products are equally harmful.
The whitening products do not reduce plaque buildup or help protect your teeth from damage caused by tooth decay, researchers found.
The researchers also noted that the artificial tooth whitener was not as effective as the standard whitener.
So, what’s the best option?
The answer may lie in a different kind of whitening treatment.
The new study examined whether using a whitening cream or whitening gel could actually reduce the amount of plaque in your teeth, which could be beneficial for patients who have already suffered tooth decay for years.
The study, led by Dr. Randal R. Sadowsky, a professor of dentistry and plastic surgery at UC Davis, looked at two different types of whiteners: the Ultralights and the Hydras.
The Ultralighters are the newer, pricier version of the traditional whitening device, but the hydras use a different, smaller formulation of the natural tooth whitening ingredient, which is made with calcium phosphate, a nutrient found in toothpaste.
“The hydras are probably more beneficial because they don’t have to be so expensive, but they still don’t make for the most convenient whitening option,” Sadowska said.
The Hydras have been around since the 1990s and have proven to be a more effective whitening solution, according to the study.
The research team tested two different whitening solutions using a combination of three different types: the hydralight, the hydra, and the Ultras.
They then compared the whitening effects between the three treatments.
“We saw that the hydrals were significantly less effective at reducing tooth damage and plaque accumulation than the Ultrals,” Sadowkas said.
“Ultralights had more efficacy at preventing plaque accumulation but also significantly less efficacy at reducing plaque than the hydramas.”
The Ultras were also more effective at preventing tooth decay than the Hydrals, according the researchers.
The team found that using a hydralights cream or gel produced a significant reduction in plaque.
However, the results were not statistically significant.
“Hydras did not appear to have any significant effects on plaque or tooth decay reduction,” the study noted.
Ultralight whitening is marketed as a whitener that is more effective than the standard Whitening Cream, but it does not provide the same whitening benefits as the Ultra.
Hydras also contain ingredients that are more harmful to teeth than the natural whitening ingredients.
Sadowska explained that the Ultres contain ingredients called metallothionein, which are toxic to teeth and are known to contribute to tooth decay because of their high level of aluminum and formaldehyde.
The hydrames contain a synthetic form of metallethionein called phenylmethylsulfonamide, which can be toxic to the human body and cause damage to teeth.
Sadowkas added that the Hydralights also contain sulfonylureas, which he said are more toxic to both the human and the teeth.
The University of Colorado School of Dentistry published a study in 2011 that also found that hydralands can cause damage.
The UCLA study was not able to find a significant difference between the hydrams and the hydrazes.
“There is still no clear evidence that these hydramases are any more effective in reducing plaque buildup than the traditional hydrals,” Dr. Richard E. DeMott, a senior author on the UCLA study and a professor in the department of dentory and plastic Surgery, said in a statement.
“However, it is interesting that these newer products may be more effective.”
Sadowski said that he was not aware of any studies that have directly tested the effectiveness of the Hydrases.
“This is the first time we’ve actually looked at this with a real controlled trial, and we’ve already found the same results,” he said.

What are the benefits of using tooth whiteners?
If you’ve been brushing and flossing your teeth for a long time, you probably know the benefits that whitening has on your teeth and your gums.
You also know that a combination toothbrush and toothpaste can make a dentistry appointment or even help with a toothache.
But is it safe?
In order to see the full benefit of whiteness treatments, Sadowski and his colleagues tested a group of volunteers in which they gave them a standardized tooth whitener and then watched them fill a toothbrush with a hydram as part of a standardized procedure. The
